FortiExplorer is a software tool you can use to confi gure your FortiGate unit. You
can use it to confi gure your admin password, network settings and to register your
unit with Fortinet. You can also access the web-based manager and the command
line interface (CLI).
Note: When using FortiExplorer for the fi rst time, ensure the FortiGate unit is using
its default settings. If the unit needs to reverted to the default settings, press the
Reset button for a few seconds. It may take a few moments to reboot.
Caution: Do not connect the USB cable until after FortiExplorer has been installed.
1 Insert the software CD included into the Management Computer.
2 Select one of the following to install:
For Microsoft Windows XP, click FortiExplorer for Microsoft Windows XP.
For Microsoft Windows Vista and 7, click FortiExplorer for Microsoft
Windows Vista and Windows 7.
3 After installation completes, connect the USB A cable end to the
management computer and the other end of the cable (USB B) to the
USB MGMT port of the unit.
4 The New Hardware Wizard opens once the unit is connected to the
Management Computer with the USB cable. Do the following:
Select the option “No, not at this time” and click Next.
Select “Install the hardware automatically” and click Next. The New
Hardware Wizard installs the hardware.The FortiExplorer wizard opens.
Note: If FortiExplorer cannot connect to the FortiGate unit, check the USB cable
connection and the Device Manager > Other Devices > Fortinet FortiGate Device
to ensure the device is properly installed. If it is not installed properly, click Re-install
Driver and return to Step 2.
